Swiss Modern Martin Stoll for Giroflex Reupholstered Lounge Chair and Ottoman

When we sourced this vintage chair and ottoman the provenance was a mystery. What we did know was that it needed fresh upholstery as there were rips and missing buttons to the existing upholstery. We selected wool upholstery from Brentano Scene called "Black Briefcase" from Modern Fabrics. This fabric contains a black background with lavender, yellow and green dashed stripes.
We asked Becky McCarville Upholstery to create more of a streamlined look with simplified arm cushions, back and seat cushions with less buttons. She did a fantastic job!
After the set was reupholstered, we did further research and discovered that this chair and ottoman matched the construction of Martin Stoll for Giroflex designs. Giroflex means "to turn and flex" and the company created ergonomic chair designs in the 1960s. So this design is not a copy of the Eames Lounge Chair and ottoman, but a contemporary design from this Swiss company!
There are signs of wear to the wood shell of the chair and ottoman which retain their original finish.
