Furniture History Deep Dive - American of Martinsville "Dania"

Like many of the manufacturers of modern furniture in the United States, furniture maker, American of Martinsville, derived its name from its location, Martinsville, in southwest Virginia.

American of Martinsville produced many high quality furniture designs (including Accord, Highlight, and this one that we haven't been able to identify), but this post focuses on the "Dania" line.

Merton Gershun is credited with designing "Dania" for American of Martinsville and the pieces became available in 1955.  There were latter iterations of Dania produced called "Dania II" and "Dania III".  Personally, the louvred drawer designs on the first Dania line are my favorite!  Dania is said to be Merton Gershun's best selling design.

We are pleased to offer a complete bedroom set from American of Martinsville's original Dania line (available Friday, September 13).  This set will include a chest, lowboy dresser with mirror, 2 bedside tables and two twin headboards (did you know two twins equals a king?!)
